De Madudu Foundation is een Nederlandse stichting en heet officieel 'Stichting Madudu Foundation' maar is bij het publiek beter bekend onder de naam 'Madudu Foundation'. De Stichting is opgericht in november 2018. De doelstellingen van de Madudu Foundation zijn:
a. het wereldwijd opleiden en begeleiden van potentieel film- en
fotografietalent zodat zij zelf authentieke verhalen kunnen vertellen uit hun
eigen land en regio en daarmee ook in hun eigen onderhoud kunnen
voorzien;
b. kennis van- en de betrokkenheid bij duurzame ontwikkelingsdoelen onder
burgers te vergroten;
c. via film, fotografie en tekst verhalen vertellen van mensen en hun levens
gericht op sociale impact in de breedste zin van het woord.
Het bestuur van de Stichting bestaat uit Bert-Jan van Manen (voorzitter), Bezait Gebre (secretaris) en Edwin Wiersma (penningmeester). Het bestuur voert de werkzaamheden uit in de vorm van vrijwilligerswerk en krijgt dan ook geen vergoeding voor de werkzaamheden (m.u.v. eventuele reiskostenvergoedingen in Nederland). De stichting heeft geen eigen personeel in dienst maar maakt gebruik van andere vrijwilligers en freelancers.
Hoofdlijnen Beleidsplan
Missie/visie
De Stichting Madudu Foundation (hierna: de Stichting) dankt haar naam aan Esther Madudu. Esther Madudu was in de periode 2011-2015 als verloskundige uit Uganda het boegbeeld voor de campagne 'Standup for African Mothers' van NGO Amref en was eveneens kandidaat genomineerde voor de Nobelprijs voor de Vrede 2015. In die periode heeft zij de hele wereld over gereisd om geld in te zamelen voor Amref en bekendheid te geven aan het grote belang van goed opgeleide verloskundigen in Afrika. Omdat fotografie en film een belangrijke rol speelden in die campagne is de Stichting naar haar vernoemd.
De kerngedachte van de Stichting is dat wanneer je de wereld wilt veranderen dit begint met hoe je zelf naar de wereld kijkt. Hoe je naar de wereld kijkt wordt mede bepaald door degene die het verhaal vertelt.
Een belangrijk deel van de missie van de Stichting is het faciliteren en opleiden van (lokaal) fotografie- en filmtalent zodat zij hun eigen verhalen op authentieke en professionele wijze kunnen vertellen via foto en film. Wij geloven erin dat mensen eerlijke gelijke kansen moeten krijgen in hun ontwikkeling. Juist op het gebied van film- en fotografie is het voor mensen in met name ontwikkelingslanden lastig hun talent te ontwikkelen. Vaak zijn er andere zorgen, ontbreken opleidingen en maatschappelijke stimulans en is er ook vaak geen beschikking over geschikte apparatuur. De Stichting wil zich onderscheiden door talent op te sporen (zowel in Nederland als daarbuiten) en de potenties van de talenten tot bloei te laten komen via workshops door professionals en met professionele apparatuur. Na het opleiden moeten de talenten in staat zijn werk van een hoogwaardig kwalitatief niveau te maken. De Stichting gaat hierbij uit van de eigen kracht van mensen.
Een ander belangrijk deel van de missie is het via film, fotografie en tekst verhalen vertellen van mensen en hun levens gericht op sociale impact in de breedste zin van het woord. Dit is het hiervoor genoemde doel onder c. We willen hier waar mogelijk ook een link leggen met gezondheidszorg (lichamelijk/geestelijk) in de breedste zin van het woord. Ook sport en beweging maken hier onderdeel van uit. Met name projecten waar film/fotografie enerzijds en gezondheidszorg (en/of sport en bewegen) anderzijds elkaar raken hebben onze bijzondere belangstelling. Dit ook met het oog op het terrein waarin onze naamgeefster (Esther Madudu) werkzaam is.
In 2024 willen we ons daarnaast aan de hand van projecten (waar film/fotorgrafie een rol speelt) richten op de afschaffing van de slavernij. Vanuit een breder perspectief bekeken is er namelijk een relatie met onze naamgeefster. Het werk van een Ugandese verloskundige, vooral als het gaat om het verbeteren van de gezondheidszorg en het bevorderen van welzijn, maakt deel uit van een wereldwijde inspanning voor mensenrechten en menselijke waardigheid. De afschaffing van de slavernij was een belangrijke stap in de erkenning van deze rechten, en hedendaagse inspanningen, zoals die van een verloskundige in Uganda, dragen bij aan het voortzetten van deze waarden en normen. Hoewel er dus geen direct historisch verband is, kunnen we de bredere context van menselijke waardigheid, vrijheid en sociale rechtvaardigheid als een gemeenschappelijke basis zien waarop verschillende inspanningen, waar dan ook ter wereld, voortbouwen. Dit sluit aan bij onze doelstelling (hierboven onder c) dat we via film, fotografie en tekst verhalen willen vertellen van mensen en hun levens gericht op sociale impact in de breedste zin van het woord. Stichting Madudu Foundation
The Madudu Foundation is a Dutch foundation and is officially called 'Stichting Madudu Foundation' but is better known to the public under the name 'Madudu Foundation'. The Foundation was established in November 2018. The objectives of the Madudu Foundation are:
a. the worldwide training and guidance of potential film andphotography talent so that they can tell authentic stories from their own country and region and therefore also can provide in their own livelihood;
b. to increase knowledge of and involvement in sustainable development goals
amongst citizens;
c. to tell stories of people and their lives through film, photography and text
focused on social impact in the broadest sense of the word.
The board of the Foundation consists of Bert-Jan van Manen (chairman), Bezait Gebre (secretary) and Edwin Wiersma (treasurer). The board carries out the work in the form of volunteer work and therefore receives no compensation for the work (with the exception of any travel allowances in the Netherlands). The foundation does not have its own personnel but uses other volunteers and freelancers.

Mission/vision
The 'Stichting Madudu Foundation' (hereafter: the Foundation) owes its name to Esther Madudu. Esther Madudu was the figurehead for the campaign 'Standup for African Mothers ' of NGO Amref in the period 2011-2015 as a midwife from Uganda and was also candidate nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize 2015. In that period she travelled all over the world to raise money for Amref and to publicize the great importance of well-trained midwives in Africa. Because photography and film played an important role in that campaign, the Foundation was named after her.
The core idea of the Foundation is that when you want to change the world, this starts with how you view the world yourself . How you look at the world is also determined by the person who tells the story.
An important part of the mission of the Foundation is to facilitate and train (local) photography and film talent so that they can tell their own stories in an authentic and professional way via photo and film. We believe that people should receive fair equal opportunities in their development. Especially in the field of film and photography, it is difficult for people in developing countries in particular to develop their talent. Often there are other concerns, lacking of training and social stimulus and there is often no equipment available. The Foundation wants to distinguish itself by identifying talent (both in the Netherlands and abroad) and allowing the potentials of the talents to flourish through workshops by professionals and with professional equipment. After training, the talents must be able to create high-quality work. The Foundation is based on people's own strength.
Another important part of the mission is to tell people and their lives through film, photography and text, focusing on social impact in the broadest sense of the word. This is the aforementioned objective under c. Where possible, we also want to make a link here with health care (physical/mental) in the broadest sense of the word. Sports and exercise are also part of this. We are particularly interested in projects where film/photography and healthcare (and/or sports and exercise) meet. This also with a view to the field in which our namesake (Esther Madudu) works.
In 2024, we also want to focus on the abolition of slavery through projects (in which film/photography plays a role). Viewed from a broader perspective, there is a relationship with our namesake Esther Madudu. The work of a Ugandan midwife, especially when it comes to improving healthcare and promoting well-being, is part of a global effort for human rights and human dignity. The abolition of slavery was an important step in the recognition of these rights, and contemporary efforts, such as that of a midwife in Uganda, contribute to the continuation of these values and norms. So while there is no direct historical connection, we can see the broader context of human dignity, freedom and social justice as a common foundation on which various efforts, everywhere in the world, build. This is in line with our objective (above under c) that we want to tell stories of people and their lives through film, photography and text, aimed at social impact in the broadest sense of the word.
